A SCHOOL NURSING HEALTH SCREENING PROGRAM IN TURKEY: A PILOT STUDY

Aim: With the school health nursing screening program, which was carried out as a pilot study, it aimed to examine status of children and affecting factors.
 Method: This study conducted with 115 third- fourth-grade students in state primary Istanbul. Within scope underwent three-stage evaluation including growth assessment, blood pressure measurement, physical examination. Examination findings were recorded standard form analyzed using chi-square test logistic regression analysis. 
 Results: It determined that 18.3% overweight 17.3% obese. Evaluation revealed dental caries 53.9% students, vision problems 35.7%, dirt outer ear/ear canal 33.3%, runny nose 27%, swollen lymph nodes 14.8%, cough 13%, nail biting 11.3%, itchy skin 9.6%, poor posture 7%, head lice or nits 6.1%. Student age associated prevalence caries, nasal discharge, (p ≤ 0.05). Conclusion Suggestions: The results indicate regular is important identifying student problems, nose, being most detected during screening. In addition, noteworthy rates obesity are high children.
